Welcome to Nine Lives Books. These Terms of Service govern your use of our website and your purchases from our online shop.
By using our website or placing an order, you agree to these Terms.
1. About Nine Lives Books
Nine Lives Books is an independent online bookshop based in Ireland, specialising in the curation of second-hand books and literary collections.
For questions about these Terms or our shop, please contact us at:
Additional business identification and contact information is available on our website.
2. Our books
Many of the books sold by Nine Lives Books are second-hand. This means that signs of age, previous ownership and use may be present.
We grade books using the following condition categories:
New
Very Good
Good
Acceptable
We aim to describe each book honestly and accurately and to disclose significant flaws where relevant. Customers should read the product description and review the available photographs before purchasing.
Minor differences in appearance, colour or condition that result from screen settings, photography or the nature of second-hand books may occur.
3. Product availability
Our catalogue is curated and many books are available in limited quantities, often as a single physical copy.
Adding an item to your cart does not reserve it. A product is not secured until the order has been successfully completed.
We make reasonable efforts to ensure that product availability is accurate. However, if a product becomes unavailable due to an error or unforeseen circumstance after an order has been placed, we will contact you and provide an appropriate resolution, including a refund where applicable.
4. Prices and payment
All prices displayed on the website are shown in Euro (€) unless otherwise stated.
Applicable delivery charges and any other relevant charges will be displayed before you complete your purchase.
Payment must be successfully authorised before an order can be processed.
We reserve the right to correct genuine pricing or listing errors. If an error affects an order you have placed, we will contact you before proceeding where appropriate.
5. Orders
After placing an order, you should receive confirmation that your order has been received.
An order confirmation does not affect any statutory rights or prevent us from contacting you if there is a genuine issue with product availability, payment, delivery information or an obvious listing error.
We may contact you using the information provided during checkout if we need to clarify information relating to your order.
6. Delivery
We aim to dispatch orders within the timeframe stated on our website or during checkout.
Delivery times may vary depending on the delivery destination and the postal or courier service used.
You are responsible for providing an accurate delivery address. Please contact us as soon as possible if you notice an error in your delivery information.
Your statutory rights regarding delivery and non-delivery are not affected by these Terms.
7. Cancellations, returns and refunds
Our Returns & Cancellation Policy explains how cancellations, returns and refunds are handled.
For most online purchases, consumers may have a statutory right to cancel within a specified period after receiving their goods. Customers also have legal rights where goods are faulty or not as described.
Nothing in our Returns & Cancellation Policy or these Terms limits your statutory consumer rights.
8. Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, the content on this website, including the Nine Lives Books name, branding, original text, graphics and website design, belongs to or is used with permission by Nine Lives Books.
You may not reproduce, distribute or commercially use our original website content without prior permission, except where permitted by law.
Book covers, author names, publisher information and other third-party intellectual property remain the property of their respective rights holders.
9. Website use
You agree not to use our website:
for unlawful purposes;
to interfere with or attempt to disrupt the website or its security;
to misuse contact forms, customer accounts or other website features; or
in a way that infringes the rights of Nine Lives Books or others.
10. Accuracy of information
We make reasonable efforts to keep our website and product information accurate and up to date.
However, errors may occasionally occur. We may correct typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions where necessary.
This does not affect your statutory rights where information provided to you is inaccurate or misleading.
11. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to our business, website or legal obligations.
The version published on our website will apply from its stated effective or last-updated date.
13. Governing law
These Terms are intended to operate in accordance with applicable Irish law.
Where you are a consumer, you continue to benefit from any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you under applicable law.

At Nine Lives Books, we carefully curate our second-hand books and aim to describe their condition as clearly and accurately as possible. We understand, however, that sometimes a purchase may not work out.
This policy explains how cancellations, returns and refunds are handled. Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights under applicable Irish and EU consumer law.
Cancelling an online order
If you have changed your mind about an online purchase, you generally have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving the goods.
To exercise this right, please contact us within the 14-day period at:
Please include your name, order number and a clear statement that you wish to cancel your order. You do not need to give us a reason.
After notifying us of your cancellation, you have a further 14 days to return the goods to us.
Cancelling before dispatch
If you would like to cancel an order before it has been dispatched, please contact us as soon as possible at booksninelives@gmail.com.
We will do our best to cancel the order before dispatch. If the order has already been dispatched, you may still have the right to cancel and return it in accordance with the process described above.
Return postage
If you are returning a book because you have changed your mind, you are responsible for the cost of returning the item, unless we state otherwise.
We recommend using a suitable postal service and keeping proof of postage until your return has been received.
If a book is faulty, damaged in transit or significantly different from its description, please contact us before returning it. Where applicable, we will handle the return in accordance with your statutory consumer rights.
Condition of returned books
Returned books should be handled with reasonable care and returned in the condition in which they were received, allowing for handling necessary to inspect their nature and characteristics.
Please remember that Nine Lives Books specialises in second-hand books. Signs of age, previous ownership and ordinary wear may be part of a book's stated condition. We use the following condition categories:
New
Very Good
Good
Acceptable
Any disclosed signs of wear, markings or other imperfections that form part of the book's description are not considered defects simply because the book is pre-owned.
Books that are faulty or not as described
If you believe that a book is faulty, has been damaged in transit or is significantly different from its description, please contact us at booksninelives@gmail.com as soon as possible.
Please include:
your name;
your order number;
a description of the issue; and
photographs, where possible.
We will review the issue and work with you to provide an appropriate solution in line with your consumer rights.
Refunds
Where a refund is due following a valid cancellation or other eligible return, we will process it in accordance with applicable law.
Where you cancel an online purchase within the applicable cancellation period, we may wait to process the refund until we have received the returned goods or evidence that they have been sent back, where permitted by law.
Refunds will normally be made using the same payment method used for the original purchase, unless otherwise agreed.
Exchanges
At present, Nine Lives Books does not offer direct exchanges.
Many of our books are individual, second-hand copies and may be one of a kind. If you wish to return an eligible purchase, please contact us and we will assist you with the return process.
